Josh and I’s favourite date night spot. This is a place to go for special occasions as it’s a great fine dining destination – we are very lucky to have one in York. Our Gusto has lovely friendly staff who are always smiling and Josh and I can’t wait to go back for date night after lockdown restrictions have been lifted to see all their lovely faces!
Not an ad or gifted. This visit was prior to social distancing and Coronavirus.
This post was written before any announcements about June or July lockdown easings.
If you go to Gusto, you go all out because it’s so difficult to choose what to have for each course. When we visited last, it was for my Mam’s birthday back in March but in this post, I’m only featuring Josh and I’s choices. So…there’s your photo creds Josh, ha! I had the Porcini Mushroom Arancini Rice Ball which is just LUSH, I always go for this starter as it’s perfect to start the meal off with. Gusto used to do three mini arancini balls with the sauce but they’ve changed it to one massive ball. When you cut it open, there’s a mini ball of mozzarella oozing out. It’s served with a truffled mayonnaise. Josh had the Smoked Haddock Risotto, served with fennel, peas, and a runny egg. You can have this dish as a main or a starter for half the price.
We both had pizzas, surprise surprise. But these aren’t just your usual Dominos pizzas, these are made with a sourdough base and freshly made sauce. Gusto also offers a gluten-free base for all of their pizzas. Me being a plain jane, I went for the Margherita and Josh had (I think) Truffle Funghi but I can’t remember, ha! It’s meant to be a pizza Bianca so I’m not sure but it’s a similar pizza. They change their menu depending on the season so it’s quite nice to have newer options…even though I usually go for my favourites. For the table, we ordered the BEST side ever. We discovered these beauties at Gusto and haven’t looked back since. Courgette fries. What a dream, try them. You won’t be disappointed.
Ooh, now we all had a debate about whether Josh and Dad’s dessert was a bit childish for two grown men, haha! Ice cream and gelato? Hmm, I’m still not sure but it was a birthday…so you do need some sort of nod to your childhood, right? I had the Sticky Toffee Pudding with vanilla ice cream which wasn’t too heavy because you know sometimes you go somewhere and the cake can be a bit stodgy? This wasn’t, it was a perfect ending to the meal. Josh had the gelato and ice cream three scoop combo: chocolate, strawberries & cream, and lemon sorbet I believe. This wasn’t our first visit and it’s definitely not our last!
