Josh and I went on a PROPER. DATE. NIGHT.
We went to Gusto Italian in town after reading and hearing rave reviews from my parents, Josh’s Aunty and of course the internet…it also helped that I stumbled across a VERY GOOD GROUPON DEAL.
Groupon, you little beauty.
…yep, we copied each other, typical us!
Our Groupon deal entitled us to two courses EACH for £24.50 for BOTH OF US. What a steal! We managed to get another cracking deal too, we got seated literally TWO MINUTES before the 2 for £10 cocktails deal ran out…Josh had the Strawberry Bellini and I had the Peach Bellini. Our waiter went to us; “You can have the cocktail deal if you order in the next thirty seconds!” HA!
They were delish.
For starters, we both had crispy lemon and pepper calamari with aioli. It was gorgeous, it was garnished with a few rocket leaves too and a massive wedge of lemon. They weren’t kidding about the lemon part. We said we’d go back there just for the calamari!
…the good stuff.
Here’s the thing. I don’t eat beef or lamb. It’s no biggie but I find sometimes I do struggle to find restaurants that do appealing chicken or pork dishes. I mean, I don’t even like roast dinners that much…I’m weird, I know. Josh, on the other hand, is normal so he eats anything, ha!
For our mains, Josh had the Gusto classic burger with fries, I had corn-fed chicken breast with a potato fondant which was paired with a buttery sauce, garden peas and some pancetta hiding underneath the chicken…basically a roast dinner without a Yorkshire pud, simple but bloody GORGEOUS.
It was that lovely the couple next to us ordered the exact same!
…we didn’t actually break the bank this time!
Due to my fabulous find, the whole meal on the night only cost us a tenner.
We’ve signed up to their Dining Club where you get 40% off your bill if you book through the club, honestly. They’ll be giving us money next! I thought the cute note really topped off a great evening.
The service was brilliant, they weren’t on top of you all the time. It was a genuinely enjoyable experience and we will definitely be returning soon!
…out of five stars.
We loved it!
…making the most of the nightlife in our beaut city.
York is full of little places which are booming during the early hours of the evening but come 9pm, they go dead. Now the Thor’s Summer Tipi is up, it’s become Josh and I’s favourite place to go after meeting friends or meals like this one. However, it can get a bit chilly when people are hogging the indoor fire pit so, after a pink and lemonade and a Pimms, we took a detour to All Bar One to finish a perfect night with a hot chocolate, of course.
Josh had their special salted caramel hot chocolate which came with two GIANT marshmallows…he couldn’t eat both, they were too sickly apparently…what a wuss. Get them down ya lad. I had the original hot chocolate, plain and simple.
All in all, it was a great night. You know when you just have the best time and you don’t want to go back to reality? It was one of those nights.
Here’s your two faves signing off, lots of love 💗 xxx
See you on Friday!
Lots of love
Niamh (& Josh)
